1. Technology -
We target software solutions that (1) have
at least some market validation (at least one
company paid for it through a professional
services contract) and (2) the service company
is not itself interested in pursuing the solution
as a product line of business.
Over the course of years many of our software service companies have
developed bodies of software code to solve customer problems. Much of
this code has been used repeatedly and may be at a point where it can
be productized.
The company that has developed this code is not a product marketing company.
Nor do they wish to risk their existing service business by switching
to a new business model. Yet, the technology may have real market potential
as a product and may provide real opportunities to create a new company.
2. Management -
San Diego has a talent pool of software executives
seeking new opportunities.
3. Capital - Investors
and banks have capital that must be put to work.
We expect to attract local investors as well
as investors from other regions of the country.
We expect that banks will also provide these
companies with capital at the appropriate time..
The Forum will accomplish its mission by identifying
marketable technology and matching it with experienced
management and capital. In order to do this technology
must be looked at from various viewpoints. This
approach allows the creator of the technology
to continue to focus on the endeavors that made
them successful. It also allows the creation
of a new company in which the creator of the
technology will have a financial interest.
